Propeller Diameter

I am considering changing propellers on my RV-7 (taildragger) from a Hartzell BA F7497-2 to N7605W-2X blades.

I know that Van's recommends the 72" (7497-2) propeller for the taildragger -7 because of ground clearance concerns (the -7 and -9 landing gear geometry and ground clearance is different/less than the -8).

Is anyone out there using a 74" prop on their taildragger? What have your experiences been with the larger prop?

An experiment that is interesting. Raise the tail to level with the prop blade down and look at the clearance between the prop and the ground. I have run 74 and 72 without concern and didn't see a notable difference either way. YMMV

I am running the 74 on my 7 taildragger with no issues as well as no performance difference between the 72 and 74
