Default Today's Off-Topic

Remember when pick-up beds were long enough to haul stuff in?

You bought up a pet peeve of mine. My last truck was a '93 Dodge Dakota with an 8' bed. I drove it for 20 years until the (manual) transmission gave up the ghost. I hauled tons of gravel and construction materials in it, and towed a 3,000 lb. trailer with it. Best truck I ever had. These days, you have to buy a yuppie truck with a crew cab and a short little bed. Screw that...

Wah.

You can still buy a regular cab pickup with an 8' bed. Probably not going to find one with a manual transmission, though. You don't see a lot of them around, because not a lot of people want them. Mine's got more people room than a Town Car limo, and I still can (and do) haul 4x8 sheets of plywood or RV wings in it. Even in my short little yuppie bed.

Don't hate it 'cause it's pretty.

I've carried full-sized sheets in a late-model Ford Explorer.

I had to slink way down in the seat, but I did it!
