Loose Wheel Pant (wobbly)

Hello -

My RV-10 has a loose wheel pant that allows the nose to wobble, maybe 1/2-3/4 inch vertically.

I took it off and found that the bracket which attaches to the strut has two bolts and both are loose.

The problem is the back nut is behind the center hub and I cannot reach it. So its impossible to tighten.

What is the procedure ? Do I have to take the wheel off to get to it ?

Also, while putting the pant back on, I broke off (flush) the long bolt that holds the outboard side of the pant to the wheel. I will have to figure out that fix as well (with an extractor I assume).

Not sure about the 10 but my 9 had same problem with the"shoulder bolts" that hold the pant bracket to the gear leg. And yes about the only way to get to the socket head and check torque is to remove the wheel. I found the nut out of threads and up against the shoulder. Fixed by adding a thin washer in the appropriate place. Be careful jacking and removing wheel be sure its secure.
