Developed intermittent radio problems, both transmit & receive. Called Garmin for advice on their SL-40. A wasted call. They just said take the whole plane to a radio shop. Thanks a lot.
Called Vans. Another wasted call. OK, guess I'm on my own here.
Took the avionics bay apart, removed the radio, removed the antennae, did a visual inspection on the antenna cable connections. Took the antennae & radio to a shop. Drove, waited, paid, both tested OK. Put a meter on the cable, tested OK. Finally turned out to be a broken center conductor on the 3" piece of co-ax the goes into the back of the radio tray on a 90 degree angle. You Vans builders receive this piece already assembled and are supposed to trust it.
