Section 29 Advice

Finished section 28 today! Getting the bolts out of the gear mounts was a royal PITA. But, it's done now!

Next is section 29. Since many have referred to this as the "INFAMOUS section 29", thought I'd ask why? Is it simply the time? Are there any words of wisdom from those who have gone before me? Any "gotchas" to watch for and avoid?

I felt the same way going into chapter 29. But patients I think is the key.

Get the longerons as close to perfect as you can especially the unwanted twist correction. This sets the stage for the rest of the fuse having a pressures where they are un needed
The 30 cent longeron bending tool is essential. Search the forums here to see what I mean if you don't know already
Bending the rear and forward skins is a PIA but once again patience is key
Make sure your firewall brackets have the flanges inside the upper and lower channels BEFORE drilling. Many people have had edge issues. Mine lined
Up.
I am getting to prime and rivet everything and finish up chapter 29. Check my
Build log for a few more points and pictures

Mark,

I work in Houston quite often. Would love to meet you and see your project some time. Sending you a PM.

Thanks for response!

Section 29

Yes in regards to checking for all edge clearances before drilling into the engine mount weldments on aft side of firewall. Section 29 is a very very long section with a lot of steps. Take your time and do not rush through when you see the light, that is where it will get ya.

Today is the day! I finished section 29! Posting here to celebrate! Seems like a milestone day.

I now know why it's referred to as the "infamous section 29". Bending longerons, trial fitting gear legs (and then pulling those #@$%& bolts back out), and a few more trials and tribulations.

But, now that it's done, I have an RV grin without even flying.

Nice work! Can't wait til I get this section done. I'm just starting to pull off the skins after match drilling, so it looks like I'll be doing a lot of dimpling and priming in the near future.

Section 29

Very nice. That's a big milestone in the build. It will start taking more and more of your workspace. I just put mine on gear and realized I need to do some major rearranging in the shop.

Welcome to the club of completing chapter 29!!!

I think I want to get a T-shirt made

"I FINISHED CHAPTER 29!"
