Getting rid of heavy wing

The 8 has had a heavy left wing since day one, finally got around to fixing it.

First thing is check rigging to make sure all is well, it is. Next is be sure fuel load is balanced, it was with full tanks.

Next read about squeezing the light wing aileron....did that, carefully, gently, squeezed entire length of it.

Took off and now have heavy right wing! Wow!

The instructions are correct saying it does not take much squeezing, go slow.

Landed and squeezed two outboard panels of left wing.

Bingo!! Airplane now stays level with very little aileron input. Fuel imbalance of 5 gallons is noticeable, so make sure fuel is balanced before doing this.

Did same for friend Roger Mell in RV-7 but squeezed just two panels of light wing, fixed it perfect he reported.

The wide mouth vice grips with duct tape on jaws works good, just reduce the bend radius a little and presto, aerodynamic magic!!

If anyone can explain why this works, would be interesting info.

I'm guessing that the decreased bend radius causes the air to separate from the aileron earlier, therefore decreasing lift on the "light" wing, making it heavier.
