Mid way thru my 5th annual I started the machine to warm up the oil for the change, and the gen would not come on the line, no amps or increase in volts. How often to gens fail, how to test. any help?

Would first look to see if you knocked any wires loose while doing your condition inspection. These things fail, sometimes in a big way, but look at the obvious things first.
