Garmin GAP26 Pitot/AOA Mounting Location

Ok.. Before I start cutting... & after reviewing the Garmin GAP26 (Pitot/AOA Probe) mounting location instructions per the G3X installation manual.. (Page 5-3)

Looks like most of you guys mount standard non AOA pitot's stalks "Behind the main spar" close to the "tie down" point and have no issues..

With the GAP26 Pitot/AOA . If its mounted behind the main spar the probe tip will be at/beyond the Garmin 25% max recommended distance from leading edge..

With the tank off for sealing/ leak testing.... I plan on mounting the pitot stalk " in front" of the main spar.. (adjusting probe angle to be parallel with the chord line)... A location... more typical to what you see on a Cessna.. etc..

Will still be able to remove the GAP26 assembly for any future maintenance.

I have mounted 2 of these in the recommended location just outboard of the aileron bellcrank access panel, aft of the spar. They work great in that location and are easy to access. Your proposed location just adds difficulty to routing the Pitot and AOA lines, wiring, and mounting of the controller. I think you will find most builders have chosen that location without any problems. Don't try and reinvent the wheel, keep it simple.

Thanks for the feedback .... and the info that AOA works fine ..mounting rear of main spar..

I moved the location in one bay because of possible future interference with the "Tie Down"
