Mis-matched starter to ring gear.

Got the overhauled parts for my O-320-A1A back together. I was going to install the starter that came with the engine and something is not right.

The starter is Prestolite MZ-4206. Ring gear is a 72566 149 tooth with a 76628A support.

The ring gear I ordered last summer and it was supposed to be a 74414 but after further inspection i found the actual part number on the support and it was wrong. Unfortunately I cant send it back now.

Now which way do i go?

It was my understanding that the ring gears are not universal and must me matched to the correct ring gear support. Something about the widths being different.
