GNS 480 (CNX 80) End of Service Life

from Garmin

This has been discussed pretty actively on the 480 Yahoo group and Beechtalk. Here's a clarifying post from Trek Lawler @ Garmin:

Hello John,
There has been a great deal of confusion and reading between the lines on this bulletin. Garmin is not discontinuing support of the 480 series of units. We are simply limiting support when it comes to cosmetic issues. We get a lot of requests to make units look like new and replace the bezel on repairs and we simply will not be able to do this any longer as the tooling no longer exists for this and we are simply running low on these parts. Keep in mind the last of these units were sold in late 2007 and there were less than 5,000 of them produced so on items such as this the parts are getting scarce. But we plan to support these units for as long as we can.

Let me know if there are any other questions,

Best Regards,

I don't think there is confusion reading between the lines, if you read the announcement. Good to hear they will continue to support these units as long as possible. They could have said that as part of the announcement, though.
