Earth X Charging Port

I know several others are using Earth X in their planes. Wanted to share this mod with you. Earth X sells a cable that you can permanently mount to battery to use with their charger and/or jump-starter pack. What I didn't want is to simply have a cable coming through the bulkhead without a "finished look".

Found a panel mount on E-bay for the EC5 plugs, like the one Earth X uses.

Got it today and installed it in my rear bulkhead. Gave it a nice finished look. Bought some EC5 ends on Amazon that allowed me to create a splice for easily disconnecting when I remove the bulkhead.

Thought I'd share this in case there are others with Earth X users that want a more finished look for the plug ends.

You can also pick up EC5 connectors at your local hobby store. They're used for the lipo batteries in RC planes, helis and other vehicles.

I use the common SAE outdoor rated plugs with 10ga wire. The SAE plugs are the common two-pin configuration that most chargers use. The recommended EarthX Optimate chargers use these SAE plugs. I bought the more expensive Optimate TM 275 from EarthX that can be used as APU ground power as well as a charger. The 10 gauge wires on the SAE port are plenty big for that. I install these in the belly of the aircraft for exterior access and install the included weather boot when not in use.

You can see the one in my RV-8 in the lower part of this interior photo (red and black wire):

I have these in my RV-3B (interior), RV-8 and Aviat Husky (both exterior belly). I installed one in another friend's RV-8 on the inside of the forward baggage compartment through the firewall. His battery is located on the firewall and he can plug in the his charger inside the baggage hold.

Here is one on my Husky (along with my ADS-B in antenna):

I have the same charger as you with the SAE plug. The main reason I needed a EC5 plug is that I also purchased the EarthX Jump Pack.

Seemed like a good "emergency" backup to have in the plane just in case I need a jump start. It uses EC5 plug only. Your solution is is better if one needs it only for charger plug. If using EarthX Jump Pack they'll need the EC5.
