Mounting fuel filter

Is there any major concern with mounting the post pump fuel filter in the engine compartment? I ask because I’ve had two very respected individuals give differing opinions. One said it was ok, while the other at minimum had reservations about it. So, what say you? Yes? No? Yes but heat protected?
