I installed an Mgl avionics v10 radio that I'm really happy with. The problem I'm having is guys 50 nm away tell me 5x5 (crystal clear) but my reception of them is good but not very clear. The same goes when I tune into the local atis which is about 25 miles away. I receive them it's just not as clear as I would like. I have just a basic 50 ohm stainless steel antenna that I bought used from an avionics place locally. Any ideas as to what I might do to clear things up? BTW i install proper coax cable and ends and it is only about 6' long. I'm wondering if the ground maybe isn't good enough.
