Garmin setup for engine "only"?

Is it possible to use a Garmin G3/G3X setup for engine monitoring primarily/only? (My gauges are questionable.. one of them is always wonky in some way during flight so maybe spend a few grand to fix a simple, likely electrical, issue right?) It seems that I could buy a glassy EI/JPI/etc setup for $$ when alternatively I could buy a GDU 370/470 (perhaps used), GEA 24, connectors, etc for $$$ and get a little more out of it in the future adding components when I choose. This would also likely replace a Tach, MP, and existing EI monitor just left of the stack. I have plans to replace the steam gauges further left at some point but don't think I'm ready to make to leap yet.. Anyways, I'm sure Garmin can chime in here and list the bare minimum for a engine-only setup.. do I even need the LRU at that point? Appreciate any input on the idea. Sorry about the awful printout but it'd fit in the space provided.

Hello Tyler,

This is a good question. We do support a standalone MFD with moving map, traffic/weather, and flight planning, but not one with EIS. The EIS support is only provided with the basic G3X/G3X Touch system, which includes the ADAHRS, magnetometer, and OAT probe (and an optional GEA 24 engine monitor).

We would, however, like to someday support a single MFD display with engine gauges and a GEA 24.

One of the reasons for this being so desirable is all the customers with small panels that would like to install one or two G5 units and a MFD with flight planning/navigation, EIS, and engine data logging. Of course, this could also be expanded to include an autopilot. If this option for an MFD with EIS were available, you could also touch the EIS strip and turn into a full screen EIS display similar to what is supported today on some G3X Touch systems.

Sorry that we don't have this option available at this time, but perhaps someday. Thanks for asking.

Thanks,
Steve
