YO-235?

Hi, I'm potentially looking for a 235 or a 320 and have come across a low time 235 at a good price. It was sold for use in a LSA on an OEM basis and has a "Y" ahead of the O-235 in that data plate (haven't seen it with my own eyes).

Can anyone shed any light on the Y? I've been told it's to identify the engine as suitable for use in an experimental or LSA. Otherwise, the internal bits share part numbers with the certified version of the engine.

Does this jive?

Response from Lycoming

I received a nice response this morning from the Lycoming OEM Domestic Sales Manager. He confirmed the "Y" designation identifies the engine as a non-certified engine for use in experimental category aircraft. He also included a .pdf with warranty information which, in my case, indicates the engine in question is beyond the warranty period.

Thanks for reading.
