Current production O320 dipstick part number?

IowaRV9Dreamer

I'm putting together a list of parts for my O-320 build in an RV-9A

The 2011 Lycoming Parts Catalog lists two different dipstick tubes:
  • P/N 75736, TUBE, Oil Level Gage, 11-9/16 long
  • P/N 75767, TUBE, Oil Level Gage, 10-9/16 long

It also lists two different "dipsticks", both called GAGE ASSEMBLY, Oil Level
  • P/N LW-16783-18
  • P/N LW-14780

Of course, all 4 of these parts are listed for my engine (O-320-E2A) - sigh.

Can anyone with a recent production Vans O-320 (or IO-320) check the length of their dipstick / tube, or better yet the part number?

Of course, any other helpful info would be great too.

Thanks!

Current production O-320 dipstick part number?

I can't help you with the part numbers, but I did have this same problem with my IO-360. I converted from a horizontal sump to a vertical and the oil tube and stick were incorrect. I bought an long oil tube off eBay and used the oil cap with a new piece of 3/16" alum rod fitted to the oil cap. I then put in 4 quarts of oil, let it settle for a few minutes and marked the level, I repeated this exercise with 6 then 8 quarts. I then took my trusty HF 1/8" stamping kit and marked each level mark with the appropriated number. I can send you a 2' length of the rod, I only have 36' left from the original 40' minimum order. You can buy the rod from Spruce by the foot. 6061 or 2024 Aluminum.
Many of the housings are two pieces that screw together.
I prefer a housing that reaches near the top of the cowl. Eliminate need for long funnel and easier to check oil.
