Polishing v painting

Its going to be a while before I can paint my RV7a. So I got to thinking that I could paint all the fibreglass parts ( especially the pink cowling!) and maybe polish the rest of the aircraft. Add some vinyl flashes or something.
Then later, paint the whole thing.
My question is if you polish the aircraft, does it present problems later when it come to paint adherance? What is the best way to polish it? Other comments?

I am in your situation. I did buy a polish that I thought had no silicone in it but it turned out that it did. Apparently, silicone based polishes are quite common and require special consideration when time for painting.

Perfect Polish states their Nuvite brand polish contains no silicon.
