Tilt up canopy latch

I had always worried about my canopy blowing open while taxing so a couple years ago I made this upper latch modification for my 6a. After seeing the "canopy incident" on this forum that occurred in Switzerland I'm glad I did. If you haven't seen the accident in Switzerland do a search for canopy incident

First picture is latch in taxi mode with nice airflow and second one is latch ready for takeoff.

First picture so I hope it works.

That's awesome!

I had been looking at ways one might add a safety latch to the 6/7/9 tip up canopy after seeing the RV-12 incident back in July. At first I considered the RV-12 canopy catch that Van's had put out (a hook riveted to the rollover bar to catch the canopy latch). I could be wrong, but the 6/7/9 canopy doesn't seem to have enough space between the rollover bar and the canopy frame to accommodate that same hardware. I'm glad someone found a solution that works!

Why not just cut a slice in the rollbar that accepts the tongue of the overhead latch?

Slot in rollbar

Has anyone tried the slot? I was afraid to cut into the rollover protection for fear of weakening it. How big can it be and where should it be cut?
