Disassembly time for a Lycoming 0-320 engine

Hi All,

First off, thanks for all of the terrific info that people post on VAF. You are really helping a Vans/aviation newbie like myself!!!:)

(And thanks to Doug Reeves for the hard work/great website!)

Question: what is the approximate time (rough estimate) to disassemble a Lycoming 0-320 engine? I'm trying to get a price quote for breaking one down for shipping, and I have no idea what should be a fair # of hours for a labor charge to pay for such work.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Breaking down an O-320

Unless you hit a snag, primarily separating the case halves, 5-6 hours would probably be ample. Some engines are tougher to split the case than others in my experience.

Cleaning and inspecting takes much longer.

If nothing binds or sticks, and you have the proper tools available, engine on a stand - couple of hours max. No cleaning. Taking pics and notes. Guess I excel at taking things apart.
