Firewall temperature (engine side)

Hello everybody!

Has someone of you some hard facts (measurements) of the max firewall temperature (engine side) of a RV-14(A) with an IO-390 during normal operations?

Thanks a lot!

In my O-360 RV7 during 90*+ F outside air temperatures I see 165-175F on lower cowl temps in flight and around 215*F 10 minutes after a hot shutdown on the ground.

Can't speak for a 14, but I've measured exit temperatures in excess of 200F with my RV-8.

I've gone to a lot of trouble to ensure no air passes through the engine compartment without coming into contact with hot engine parts. The result is higher exit temperature; there is no dilution with cool air that leaked by the engine sealing.

meat thermometer

Not a -14, but I inserted a digital meat thermometer probe through the bottom of the firewall on my LNC2. The digital readout is where I can see it. It typically shows 140F in flight and has gone as high as 200 on a hot day after I land and am slow taxiing.

RV9A

Not a 14, but I have temp strips on the EarthX battery and the Pmags. Battery on the firewall sees 150 f and the Pmags on the back of the accessory case see 190 f.
