Apollo SL60 Squelch issue

I just acquired a plane with an Apollo SL60 GPS/Com. It seems the squelch is not working, but it could be that I don't know how to use it properly. I can not find a manual on-line. If I pull out the knob and try to adjust squelch it is adjusting the volume. Am I doing something wrong?

I installed a (then Apollo / UPSAT) SL-60 as a part of the original panel of my -8, and have used it ever since.

Thanks from me too. I hate to say it but I have been using my GX65 for 10 years and never have figured out the squelch. I need to use it so rarely I never remember to look it up in the manual when I get on the ground.
