Finishing interior side panel

I'm wondering how others are finishing the alum panel under doors and between front and rear seats? Because it's so tight and you have to insert it about 1/2 inch then slide back to line up holes, it messes up any paint, don't know how others get it in with leather? I must be missing something.

Hi Dave,

I painted mine prior to assembly. I assembled the interior panels to move my project and recently removed them to continue my interior finishing/wiring. I lifted up as much as possible on the panel that it slides under, and while it did mar the paint a slight bit, it was not enough to run through to the primer. Plus, when assembled, the part that is marred, obviously, is hidden.
