Blue RTV around baffles?

Yeah I know, wtf is wrong with me... I'm wondering your thoughts on using blue RTV instead of red around my baffle/engine. The engine is blue, the baffles are silver, and the silicone baffle material is blue. You can see how blue would look nicer here.

Per their website, the blue RTV is good up to 500deg:

Would that be ok on the top side of the engine?

Or if 400deg is no good, thoughts on one of the gray options?

or 3m Fire barrier?

DOW 732 ??

Some time ago someone did a comparison on VAF of several different RTVs for baffle seal. Try a search. One of the better ones was DOW732 clear. So That's what I ended up using on my blue motor.

One issue may be that products called "gasket maker" are only designed for thin applications and not as a gap filler, which might be needed in various baffle location.

Buy a tube and do some tests until you're satisfied or not. For example, clean a spot on the exhaust port of your car's cylinder head and run a bead, check it in a few weeks.

Datasheet:

FWIW, I've found Loctite 598 black sealant to be nearly unbeatable for baffle sealing. The exact same product is also marketed as Permatex Ultra Black.

Datasheet comparison says the blue exhibits about 25% less tensile strength, and the temperature rating is marginal for cylinder heads. Same gap fill rating.

I used the ultra gray to match colors. It is 400F continuous duty - that is the temperature that paint will darken and come off. I figure it is good.

As a side, I checked with Van's and they are OK with using the blue RTV for baffles.

Be careful with application......

Compatibility
DOW CORNING 732 Multi-Purpose
Sealant releases a small amount of
acetic acid during cure. This may
cause corrosion on some metallic
parts or substrates, especially in direct
contact or when the cure is carried out
in a totally enclosed configuration
which would not allow cure by-
products to escape.
