Fiberglass rudder bottom question.

To install the fiberglass rudder bottom, cut outs have to be made on both sides for the rudder control horn to fit through. This leaves an area about 1? square above and a small area just behind the control horn with no fiberglass. What do most do with these areas, fill with a piece of fiberglass or use micro balloons, or just leave it open? Thanks

I left it open. This way, you can get it off and on as needed for wiring access.

Cosmetically, fill it, sand it, and paint it so it doesn?t show (to you only). Aerodynamically, leave it like it is and paint it. Nobody will ever notice (except you), and because of the location and size, it has no measurable aerodynamic affect.
