Mag timing/rebuild

I have first run Slicks that need the internal timing checked. YouTube makes it look easy if you have the $15 alignment tool. I've done external timing, and I don't get scared by taking things apart, is this a normal field thing or easier to just ship it off to a shop?

Setting the e gap is pretty straight forward. Very easy to take apart, but it can take some time for setting. You are making very small movements in the point gap and then checking. Definitely a doable job for someone with basic skills and motivation. I even made my own tool for the Job from scrap .063. You will need a buzz box or an alternate method to determine when the points have opened ( continuity is lost).
One tip is to set the pont gap at .009 as a starting point. This will get you very close.
