trimming bottom cowling

45-05: The plans state to trim the upper edge of the top cowling during the initial trim, but the lower cowling edge is only trimmed to 3 1/2 " from the front corner. I understand that this is so that you can fit both pieces together during the initial fit to trace the mating line from the top cowl to the bottom-45-11. Visually in the plans it looks like some of the lower edge is taken off, but not to the scribe line for the entire top lower edge.

My question: The amount of material from the trim line to the rough edge is about 1/2 to 3/4 " depending where it is measured. Is that too much material to have in place to get a good initial fit, or should it be trimmed down to about 1/4" from the scribe line.

thanks
