No more that two destinations (ok three) and no long justifications please. This is just raw data gathering. I am thinking of compiling something in Excel that reflects whatever comes out of this.

Mackinac Island, Michigan
Key West, Florida

Flying up the saguenay fjord to Chicoutimi Quebec

We have made several trips and been in all 48 states. It's hard to single out destinations from trips.... but Scott and Deb vote for:

# 1 St. Augustine, FL (stay at the Bayfront Westcott House Inn and eat at O'steen's)

# 2 Grand Turk, BVI

# 3 Rangeley, ME (stay at the Pleasant Street Inn, Rob is a great breakfast chef!)

Tillamook, OR

Tillamook, Oregon airport: (TMK)

The experience:
Lunch flight destination in my RV6 - I was Number One for landing and an actual P51 "Red tail" Mustang was Number Two. We both taxied to the same ramp. It felt like WWII. Coolest ever!

#1 Oshkosh/AirVenture
#2 The last couple Texas Southwest Regional Fly-Ins that were held in San Marcos several years ago.

Staniel Cay, Bahamas
Friday Harbor, WA
Quebec City, Quebec

It's hard to hold it to 3 when Key West is still out there:D

Atlin BC/Rackla (not on a sectional) YT last summer.
Calgary/Atlin/Stewart BC in 2010.

Currently in Williams Lake BC enroute north again this year.

So hard to limit it to 3, but here goes:

EIIM - Inishmore, Arran Isles, Ireland
Glenforsa, Isle of Mull Scotland
3U2, Johnson Creek, Idaho

But I could go on ....

This Should Be Interesting

Mountainair Country Club, Burnsville, NC (highest airport East of the Mississippi).
Albert Whited, St. Petersburg, Fla. (a great little downtown airport)
CMX, Houghton County, Mich. (going home to the shores of Superior)
Terry, CFI
RV9A N323TP

hard to decide

West Yellowstone, MT had the best sightseeing. Hardin, MT was best for the history buff. Visiting the inlaws in Carlsbad, NM (about 40 trips) was always my favorite.

Harlequin Lake, AK (fly-in dirt strip, stay in USFS A-frame) east of Yakatat, AK

This was so far and away #1 I won't post a #2 or #3.

Destination

From North East Georgia:

San Francisco.
Sedona.
Las Cruces, NM., to visit the Trinity Atomic Bomb site.

Hard to choose just three but here goes:

Niagara Falls - June 2011
SunNFun - 2010
Key West - 2009

Really hard to choose so I'll just list 3 not named so far:

Jekyll Island, GA
Gaston's, AR
Beaumont Hotel, Beaumont, KS (my wife loved taxiing down the road into town).

In Northern California:
  1. Half Moon Bay (KHAF): Right on coast, 5 min walk to restaurants, lodging
  2. Columbia (O22): Preserved Gold Rush town, 10 min walk to restaurants, lodging
  3. San Carlos (KSQL): Great air museum, restaurant on airport, rent car to greater SF Bay Area

Tofino BC (west coast of Vancouver island)
Crawford Bay BC in the kootaney valley just to go swimming.
Everywhere we are in the air traveling with the family:D

Ok that doesn't count, I would say taking us east to our home town airport, Bathurst N.B.

Man, looking at some of these destinations, I think I gotta get out more!

My three;
Oshkosh, of course - '07, '09, '10.
Catalina Island - Buffalo burgers with my brother. Fun.
Durango, CO - Vacation wife my wife.

Tough Question

It was hard to pick three and not put Oshkosh in there. But Oshkosh is more like a second home than a destination so here are my top three.

1. Johnson's Creek You can't beat this place. For me, it doesn't get any better for a flying destination.

The approach into PAWD Seward, Alaska. Flying down from Anchorage over the Harding Ice Fields, out over the Pacific and then in to PAWD was simply breath taking.

mine

Johnson Creek Idaho - camping near plane in woods

East Sound on Orcas Island in San Juan Islands. - laid back island life

West Yellowstone - camping in pilot campground and easy access to Yellowstone

Too many to choose from, these three may not be THE best but they just popped out of head:

a. Catalina Island - Not only it was above clouds when we visited but my cat's name is Catalina.

b. Leadville - Landing and take off there are not as difficult as I thought. Scenery is beautiful.

c. Friday Harbor - Just because I used to crash my airplane there in MS Flight Simulator, I have to prove to myself that I am better in the real world. East Sound is more interesting.

Top three??

#1-- Saint Barths, TFFJ, French West Indies,,, La Select Bar,, Bay St Jean,

#2-- Grand Case, TFFG, St Martin,,, Orient Beach, and good food in Grand Case

#3-- Johnson Creek, Idaho,,, Camping out of your airplane

That was easy :)

Always fun to go to cool places with friends!

Unique places

Coyote Flats Ca (closed now) 3000' long. 9988' EL. Higher than Leadville.
Saline Valley Ca Both the Town strip and the Chicken Strip.
Flying B Ranch Id and nearly a dozen other strips in the Idaho Wilderness Areas
Quite a few fields, pastures, county roads (both paved and gravel), 12' wide and long drive ways.

All with RV 4 & 6

Steve Barnes "The Builders Coach"

Catalina - landing above the clouds (cloud layer to just _below_ runway height). Then hike down through the fog to our deserted campsite by the Ocean.

I guess this will have to run a while to get a significant number of destinations

Remember I'm looking for destination names that can be put in Excel cells. If it is possible to restrict it to that and just be your completely independent choices that would be great. The places YOU consider your best ever destinations - they don't have to be in the US by the way so long as you flew your plane (rentals OK) in there. Try to make choices based on the appeal of place itself not because of something in your life like you had your 50th birthday there, you met the love of your life there, etc.

KNEW Lakefront Airport in New Orleans
My wife and I flew from Louisville Ky for our Ten Year wedding anniversary. (Spent it in the French Quarter.)

On the deck over Lake Ponchartrain on final was interesting to say the least!
