Molybdenum Mines

Vlad

Well Known Member
50-60 miles to the west of Denver CO there is an interesting area in the high mountains. Two complexes of Climax molybdenum mines.

By Berthoud Pass.

Mine #1 Henderson tailing ponds.

Ore processing plant.

Second mine is located couple dozen miles to the southwest. Very picturesque area between them. Dillon reservoir.

Keep climbing toward Fremont Pass.

Beautiful ski area to your right. High country.

Over 13,000 feet there is another mine. A VAFer worked there helping to extract an important aviation mineral.

Not an easy job in cold and thin air.

Passed the mine is Lake County airport KLXV the highest elevation in America. Go visit!

Hey Vlad - great pics and travelogue, as always!

Are you breathing O2 from a bottle up there, or just relying on your sleek physique in the thin air?

Great Photos

Great photos Vlad! Used to drive Hwy 40 when traveling from Denver to my home, located in Idaho, back in the early 1980's.

Now can see some of the area from the air, Thank You for sharing the photos!

Best regards,
Mike Bauer
