Help near Albuquerque / SantaFe area

Appreciate any leads on hanger sources and aero estates in the Albuqurque to SantaFe area. We are retired and planning to take the RV's back to heaven.

In Santa Fe there are no airparks. Spaces for hangers are limited at KSAF due to geography, etc. so hangers go for a premium. Rentals for an old T hanger are $500/month and that's month to month, no long term leases. It's not uncommon for those prices to go up unexpectedly. Some newer hangers come up for sale from time to time and usually start around 65k depending on size and features. These are mostly larger T hangers. Ramp parking rates are reasonable and controlled by the city. KSAF also has a few more restrictions because of the TSA level (commercial flights out to Denver, Phoenix, etc.). That means you must be escorted on the ramp if you don't have a TSA badge and if you want to bring your car on the ramp it must be registered and have a large pass displayed.

Los Alamos is a great airport with lot's of EAA/GA activity without the TSA hassles. It too is limited on space and empty hangers are virtually unheard of. It sets on a mesa and is surround by the national lab so there is not where to go.

A little further to the north is Espanola, where there aren't a great number of hangers but there are open ones. The hangers are fairly new and the airport is a good place to go for touch and go's. The hangers are cheaper than Santa Fe, but almost anything is.

In Albq. the place to go is Double Eagle on the west mesa (AEG). I don't know hanger prices down there.

To the east is Sandia Park which is an airpark on the eastern edge of the mountains off of I-40 (http://www.sandiaairpark.com/). Further to the east is a popular spot in Moriarty (0E0) where some folk from Albq and even Santa Fe base. It has a lot of glider activity and is home to the Sonex jet checkout.

To the south of Albq is Mid-Valley airpark (E98) in Los Lunas.

Welcome back! There are some great EAA chapters in the area.

Bob
