Removing Bowden cable

Hello,

I am sure this is a stupid question but is there any way to remove this knob so I can pull the dash covering off without detaching the cable from the firewall and pulling all the way through?

Thank you!

Disconnect the other end of the bowden cable (the wire, not the spiral wound sheath) from it device. Then push in the button and pull out the arm. You will find the wire is attached to that arm. Caution! There is a small metal ball that will fall out before the thick rod fully comes out of the casing. In your case, it may fall out behind the panel unless you get the threaded casing back into the panel hole. Hold a pan underneath the area to catch it.

The ball will need to be guided back in on re-installation, but the process is relatively intuitive once you see the end of the rod.
