As we wait for UK LAA signoff on the RV-14, we're thinking about various customisations.
We will definitely be aiming for an IFR fit. From a practical perspective here in Europe that means WAAS GPS, VOR/ILS, DME and Mode S transponder (and maybe an ADF, but I think I can get away without one, fun as they are
).
Adding a DME antenna on the bottom will be easy (I'm thinking just behind the F-01407 bulkhead), but I'm less sure about the VOR/LOC/GS antenna. I keep reading that the wingtip antennas are OK but a whisker antenna is much better. As we plan to use the plane for real approaches in real north-European weather, we definitely want to go with the best option.
The two remaining options seem to be on top of or underneath the tail. Has anyone done this on a -14? Does anyone have pictures to share on how they mounted it?
