I noticed that some older (not too old, e.g. Checkoway's) builder's sites have jigs for HS construction. Yet, I see nothing about a jig in my instructions (until the wings section, anyways). Why did the jig go away? Are the predilled holes THAT good that we don't need jigs to get a straight HS? (See my last post in this forum for more on that...)

You don't "need" a jig anymore. The only reason to build one now is to keep everything held securely while riveting and fitting it all together.

I built my 7A emp. with no jigging or fixtures of any kind and it came out perfect. All I had was a flat table.
