Daniel and I are enroute! More pictures available later. Started from Houston yesterday. Stops at Rusk County, TX and Kennett, MO. At Kennett we coincidently met up with Bud Newhouse, who was returning from the NASCAR formation flight at Fort Worth. I swapped Daniel for Bud's luggage and Daniel got his first RV8 ride, to finish the day at Lunken/Cincinnati. Both KRFI and KTKX are good stops with good fuel prices and nice facilities for a cross-country break.

It was a right day to be northbound, probably a 20 knot push at 5500'.

We had a great evening with family, and we planning to visit as many cousins as possible before Daniel starts in San Diego next month.

Wow, this all sounds too familiar! Sounds like a great time. We thank Daniel for his patriotism and service.

Good job!

Carl:

Proud pop of a Marine? Good on you for raising such a fine young man.

As for the to-be Devildog, tell him there's an unofficial 12th General Order:

"To walk my post from flank to flank,
And take no *%#@ from any rank."

Carl, When you and your soon-to-be marine son get to Florida. Look me up (VAF white pages) and give me a call. I'll buy lunch and if it works out, I'll introduce you to my nephew who goes to Parris Island June 10th.

OH to NC

Started the day with a hop to Falmouth, KY for fuel. A group of wild turkeys were on the runway, and decided to run across the runway right in our rollout path. Daniel was sure we barely missed one that passed under our wing.

He got to visit with cousins and families this evening in Asheville, NC. Using Hendersonville airport, 0A7.

We appreciate the good wishes for Daniel's future, and Gary, if we fly to Venice we will definitely call.

Have a nice trip Carl!

Been to Gene Snyder yesterday the cheapest gas in the vicinity. They were flying Young Eagles. Spotted an RV but he left early.

NC to ATL

Hey Vlad, so sorry I missed seeing you on Sunday at Gene Snyder.

We got a slow start south since ATL area had IFR WX this morning. Left Asheville area about 2 pm and quickly arrived in KLZU, NE of ATL. Daniel has his PPL Glider but is motion sensitive. A bit bumpy today so I turned off the Trio Pro Pilot and he hand-flew to keep up the concentration on the task and avoid any bad feelings. He flew great!

Mandatory food picture, Green River BBQ, Saluda, NC. Great BBQ, maybe 20 minute drive from 0A7.

Later this evening, dinner out with cousins that have growing families..

Tomorrow to KDED, WX permitting! These RVs are wonderful cross-country machines!

Good to hear you are having some good family time. That will be a memory you will never forget. All the more reason for me to get mine done.
Thanks,
Robert

Three male Martin generations, in Martin ver 2.0 I had 2 male siblings but Daniel and cousin Gabe are the only males to carry the name in Martin ver 3.0, and little Gabriel is the only male Martin ver. 4.0 so far... We are flush with X chromosomes.

We departed Atlanta area for points south.

At Gwinette Co a minion blimp from "Despicable Me" was flying, here's a preflight shot:

Then we took an tour of a famous landmark. Saw a real nice laser show here a few years back:

Then to Waycross, where years ago I rocked for hours on their porch, watched planes, and never dreamed I could fly in one day in my own plane!

Dave - we can't thank you enough for squeezing us into the hanger! I recommend everyone on VAF visit Lunken, the pilots, flying experiences and social environment are 1st class!

Bud will have to explain the wingtip devices, cloud seeding?

Bay Minette (1R8) is a nice stop near Mobile, AL. Daniel made more new friends...

We started out today planning a game of chicken with a cold front, embedded tstorms, etc. Travel as far west as safely possible, using FSS and XM weather to make the stop and wait decision.

We won the game of chicken because we've stopped an hour short of home, at Jennings, LA (3R7). Nice airport directly adjacent to nice Hampton Inn and shopping for whatever. Courtesy car, no fee for overnight tiedown, very helpful manager. One bummer, no hanger space available :(

The weather has moved in now, and should clear in the morning.

You all understand the critical importance of checking gust locks and overall exterior after storm passage and continuing strong winds:

Good news, gust lock systems are working great, temps have dropped significantly, and the sky is clearing up. Should have a severe clear flight on our final leg home after Daniel wakes up!

Home Safe, Friday 10 am

Home again! Thanks again to the VAF "family" we share with each other, and my very patient wife and family. Also extra thanks to my team at NASA, 6th floor, 4 South, for covering while I was gone.

Route of flight with fuel stops and overnights with family. A regret that because of weather and schedule we didn't see Brian, Gary, Turbo, and more VAFers :( Great to see Bud and David and meet new friends at LUK!

A few captured memories from 6 days of flying over 2,262 miles. They describe the freedom and flexibility of owning and flying an RV.

Airplane ownership is critical!

Vlad,

You know the airplane is manditory to transport us to the locations we must explore and to meet new people. Dreams - "We'll get higher and higher, who knows what we'll find?" Quick, enjoyable, flexible, safe, and affordable transportation!

New Marine

Daniel has returned from Boot Camp, San Diego, a new Marine.

We have done some local RV6 flying in the Houston area, and he's back to San Diego soon for Infantry School and then is assigned his permanent duty station.

Carl, Congrats to you and your son. Having met you at Sebring, I can tell he is an apple that has not fallen far from the tree. Making PFC out of basic in exemplary. Tell him thanks for his service to our country for me.

I leave next week for MCRD Parris Island to see my nephew graduate. I can't wait to see the changes since I "visited" last in Sept 1966. :D

Congrats

Carl.....I am sure you are a proud father....tell Daniel ooo-rah and we are proud of his service to our country!!!:)
