Tank testing and the finger strainer

The directions that came with the tank pressure testing kit say to install a 1/4" pipe plug in place of the finger strainer. But the fitting for the finger strainer is larger than 1/4". It looks to me like it would make sense to install the finger strainer then cap it with the cap that came in the kit.

What am I missing, or what do I not know?

OK, a lot. But if we could please keep in on topic . . .:D

Either way will work. Plug the strainer or the hole the strainer is in with the appropriate sized plug.

I recommend assembling all of the fittings (finger strainer then -6 fitting) and a -6 cap to seal it off. This way you can test for leaks in your fitting and finger strainer assembly.
