Prop Bushing

Anyone have issues with their prop flange bushings? I have one that needs to come out . . and when I looked close it appears 2 others are not fully seated.

I tried the bolt through the bushing with stacked washers "trick" to try and pull the unseated bushings in place but just end up deforming the washers I am using to bridge the gap over the stacked washers.

Anyone had to pull bushings? How hard to you need to pull?

Thanks Mike

I had to press one out in order to drill my case for the electronic ignition sensor. Use a large C-clamp. To install (press in) put the foot of the clamp over the flange (larger diameter), if the foot isn't large enough to make good contact with the flange slip a flat piece of steel in between the bushing and the foot of the clamp, on the opposite side use a socket that just fits over the bushing. You'll then use the C-clamp to press it back flush.

Mike,
Recently I had to reclock the prop on my 10. Long story short, I could not use the home made tools suggested on this site due to clearance issues between the crank flange and the engine. Lycoming ST-115 is a tool made by Lycoming to remove and install bushings. Call VanBortel-Air Power and tell them you want to rent this tool. They will have it shipped to you from Lycoming. They will charge you for the tool ($1350.00) and upon your returning it to them you will be credited this amount. The rental charge is $100.00 per month plus shipping.

How I removed them.

I put a large socket with a bolt through the socket and washers. Tighten the bolt then tap the bushing with a hammer. Tighten a little more then tap again. This has always worked for me.

IIRC (and without taking my prop off) 2 of the bushes are slightly proud to provide clocking for the correct prop orientation.
