Linear pot

Well Known Member
I'm sure someone has already done this so I'm asking.
I would like to know what linear pot to use for a flap motor sensor in my 4, and how they installed it.
I will be wiring it to my GRT.
Thanks for any help.

I used a Ray Allen unit, driving a R/A LED indicator with it. Pretty sure it will also work with the GRT.

I made up a mount with some scrap alum, used Radio Control hardware to create the linkage.

This is in an RV 10, so pretty sure the exact thing will not fit your 4-----but you should be able to adapt things as needed to fit your particular need.

I just used a dial pot I had laying around but dont think it was linear. The Skyview allows for calibration across the range and it doesn't have to be a linear input.

Thanks

Thanks Mike for the pics- do you know what the stroke length was?
Joel, do you have any pics of your install? I'd like to see how you hooked it up. I've got pots laying around I could use

As I recall, it is 1"----or that is what I set it up to use.

I set it up with a slight dead band at each end, to make sure I did not try to force the travel beyond its limits. Hard part was trying to figure the matching travel point on the flap arm.

Good luck with your efforts.

This is the only picture I could find. The Pot had a long shaft on it that was cut to the length I wanted then was drilled and tapped for a 6-32 screw to hold the radio control servo arm in place. The flap weldment just has a hole in it with a z bend alum. welding rod to keep it light :p
