Starter died

Hi All
My starter finally failed today I think it is the Bendix and I am having a hard time finding an old Delco starter for a O320 I like having The heavier starter to bring my CG farther forward is there anyone out there with an old starter they would like to part with

I had my rebuilt at a shop that rebuilds starters and alternators and was reasonable and fast

Just Lube It

The Bendix Drive is pretty easy to replace. A copy (pretty old, but still pretty good) of the Prestolite manual can be found here:

Do you lubricate it regularly? I had trouble with mine and after taking the front end of the starter apart and freeing it up I got it working again. After that I squirted some LPS-1 on it every time I had the bottom cowl off and never had any more problems.

Dayton,

I was in your shoes several years ago, using a Prestolite starter for CG purposes. When it crapped out the last time, I found a flywheel weight ring (~10 lbs) and switched to the Skytec NL starter. I've been very happy with the conversion.

Just a thought.

I cleaned the bendix with solvent and installed it.
After recharging my battery (left the master on) and several ground starts I think it is good to go
