WOW Brian, You are really moving along quickly!! You will have a great airplane when your done.

Still waiting on wings.......

An update since I have not posted one in a while. Emp/Tail cone are basically done less the fiberglass work. I am pretty much out of parts so I am waiting on my wing kit.

As for the wing kit I really got behind the kit lead time/crating/shipping curve on this one....

Van's lead times seem to be higher than what I am used to and they missed their estimate a little bit. Also the freight company is taking their sweet time getting the kit to me.

Hopefully I will get my wing kit tomorrow.

Best advice is to order as early as you can otherwise you might find yourself waiting and waiting and waiting. The bright side is I have been able to do a bunch of stuff around the house that I have been neglecting and have had more free time to exercise!

Timing is everything! When I finished my tailcone, I took a year off from building altogether trying to decide if I wanted to continue. When I decided I did and ordered my wing kit, there was over a 6-month backlog due a spike in orders from Brazil. So my building hiatus ended up stretching to about 19 months. :(

Hey Brian,
Glad to hear the wing kit is on the way.
Looking forward to seeing your new 10 at OSH this year.

DR has a set for sale, read the VAF front page.

I ordered my wings 2 weeks ago and the lead time was 8 weeks. It's since gone up to 10 weeks..

So the wings finally arrived. Vans missed their lead time and projection a little bit and it took a few extra days for ABF to decide to deliver my kit so this added up to about 2-3 extra weeks I was not expecting for lead time. No big deal, just order sooner rather than later.

ABF canceled delivery three days in a row and ended up delivering my kit at about 7PM on a day where they claimed the delivery would take place between 9-5.

When the truck finally arrived, I found that the spar box was in great shape but the other crate was busted open, missing part of the lid, bottom panel pulled loose, two metal bands missing, and the skids on the bottom broken off.

Thanks ABF! You are now officially 0 for 3 kits (RV7 kits included) that you managed to deliver to be without severely damaging the crate!

At first I figured there was no way that the contents would be intact and or not damaged. Much to my surprise it appears that everything is still in there! I have to do a complete inventory to be sure but it is looking good so far.

Those beautiful spars are like airplane porn!😊

After pulling everything out and getting a look at it, all the parts seem to be undamaged. The skins are OK and while I still need to do a complete inventory to make sure nothing fell out, it looks like I got lucky!

Are those red parts the fuel caps? Did Van's change them? All the other build logs I've seen haven't been anodized.

My tail kit came via a different carrier with one end opened and foot prints all over it. Everything was fine and present though. The 10# of kraft paper and about 1000' of plastic wrap does its job!

It took 12 for mine to ship. Another 9 days (so far) to travel to East TN.

Probably for the best right now. Between the weather, family, holidays, and work I've only put in about 5 hours on the tail over the past two weeks. I was going to finish priming today but t-storms just rolled in.

Yes, they are much different than the caps that came with my RV7.

They are really light weight compared to the older style.

Are they an upgrade from the original style? Time will tell..... hope they don't leak fuel out or let water in!

Here is the link to them, the non-locking cap was included:

Yeah I looked at adding them to my order but reviews I saw were mixed. Interesting that they're standard now. The option to easily switch to locking caps is nice.
