has there been a problem with cracks in elevator skin. we bought a 6A and it has a crack on the right and left side. top skin where the front spar attaches to the balance weight horn. would post a picture but to Dumb! [email protected]. Any advice other than new elevators.

Common problem associated with not forming the control surfaces properly when assembled. Stop drill and monitor is the standard protocol, but both cracks at the same point on both elevators near the counterweight is a bit disconcerting. Cracks normally form/start at rivet holes and are usually found at the trailing edge of the stiffeners or spar, but not always. The counterweight area has quite a bit of suppprt from the overlapping skin. I usually see cracks inboard of that but anything is possible. Try to get pics.
There are lots of posts about rudder and elevator cracks if you search the forum.
