Default Bandsaw

You might check harbor freight. I bought one of their four speed wood bandsaws and converted it to a metal cutting saw. Works great.

Ditto the HF model. I keep that one in my shop and picked up a nice Ridgid floor model on Craigslist that I keep in the hanger.

Me too Harbor Freight, $124 plus an $8 aluminum cutting blade (get two, trust me). But my wife has found many-an-item on the various craigslist/letgo-type boards out there.
Good luck!

Default bandsaw

I used the bigger 4 speed saw to convert to metal cutting. Nice cast frame and table. The key, though, is a good blade. I went with a Lennox blade. It cuts metal like butter.

Note: I used a 10: speed reducer to get the proper blade fpm for metal...

Bob, do you have any photos or part numbers? I'm intrigued by what you've done. Been looking at buying a metal cutting bandsaw but they are pricey. Conversion of a wood cutting saw sounds like it may be a reasonable alternative.

Default Bandsaw

Hi. I used the harbor freight 4 speed bandsaw to start with. I waited for the 25% off coupon.

https://www.harborfreight.com/14-in-...saw-60564.html

Then I used this reducer. I added the mount and motor coupling which you can find on the surplus center.com website. Again, I found coupons online.

https://www.surpluscenter.com/Brands...3-133-10-R.axd

The last thing I added was a quality Lennox metal cutting blade. I think I have about $450 invested, but you would be hard pressed to find a vertical, 14", metal cutting bandsaw for twice that price.

I have used it to cut aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and mild steel with no issues. I use it far more than my horizontal bandsaw.

If you want, I can send you some pix via email when I get out to the shop. Probably be a couple of days, though...

Let me know!
