I've solved the "last five miles" problem! This is a self balancing electric unicycle. Kind of like a one wheeled Segway. It's very compact (I can easily fit two plus regular gear in the plane), can go 15-20 miles on a charge, tops out near 20 mph, and even handles off-road pretty decently. There's a learning curve, but not so bad that you couldn't figure it out in an afternoon.

Not to be confused with the "hoverboard" scooters that are all over the news. Those are toys/gimmicks... albeit a lot of fun.

That's pretty cool! How much and where do you get them?

Kinda looks like knee pads and a crash helmet would be appropriate attire with one of those. At least for a rider my generation.

Other than that, this might be handy. Thanks for showing it to us!

Dave, I think you will be able to fit your walker in the back of your 3 with one of these too so it should work out for you.

The one in the video is a Ninebot One P and runs about $1300. I have another one called an IPS Zero which is about half the cost, a little smaller, and a little lighter weight.

Here's the Zero:

I picked up the Ninebot from a New York dealer called Hood Riderz. Most of these things are shipping directly from China (I got my IPS from a Chinese dealer). There's an electric unicycle forum that has a lot of information about reputable dealers.
