G3X with Stratus ESG transponder

bobl

I'm New Here
I have a Stratus ESG transponder and a Garmin G3X GSU375/GSU73 system. I?m trying to get the altitude encoder serial input to work together - the transponder is reporting a fault for Altitude Source and reads -1100 feet on the altitude diagnostic screen.

The ESG altitude source is configured for Serial-Trim/Gar.
I have the ESG RS232 input pin 5 connected to the G3X GSU73 RS232 out3 pin 19, as per G3X install manual, following interconnect guidance for Garmin GTX327/328/33 transponder.

An oscilloscope shows there is definitely data being transmitted on the line. Appareo Support says the ESG expects "Garmin ICARUS ALT in 10 or 100 ft increments? at 9600 baud. G3xpert Support told me they can't confirm that is what the G3X outputs, but "believes" it might be true.

Anybody have any success at getting this combination to work?

Watching....about to do the same thing.

(Whoops—just saw this is 2 years old....but still watching )

The encoder format ourt of the g3x is Garmin specific and will not work with non garmin equipment. The G5 will work as an encoder and will work with most non garmin equipment
