Today I took delivery of my RV-10 emp kit.
Looking forward to getting through the inventory and getting started.

And the fun begins!

What fun. I took delivery of tail kit #784 in late 2007, so that is 900 tail kits in the past 8 years.

So between getting the garage ready and some other house projects (putting hardwood flooring in our master bedroom), I finally started the build on March 1st.

I have completed the Vertical Stabilizer.

I've also had a chance to start working on the Rudder between priming sessions and have the basic skeleton mostly complete. So making progress there too.

Tonight I finished up my rudder.
I've already made some progress on the HS, but now 100% of my effort will be onto that.

Couple of obligatory pics...

Not yet, no.

I anticipate another 150 hours to finish the emp.
approx 50 hours for elevators and approx 100hrs for the tailcone.
Plus there's additional time for attachment and doing fairings.

I've been working roughly 40 hours/month so will hold off a little longer.

I'm also still debating to do both wings and fuse QB or just wings and slow build the fuse.

I guess if I'm doing QB of both, I probably should order soon.
Otherwise, I'll likely wait about a month and order the SB fuse and QB wings.

So after crunching some numbers and looking at my budget, I've decided to go the route of QB wings and slow build the fuse.

Today I put my order in for the QB wings. Looks like an approx end of year delivery.
I'll hold off a little longer on the fuse order with the center section included.
That way it'll line up a bit better with me finishing the emp kit.

My elevators have been mostly done for awhile. It took me 3 attempts at getting the trim tabs to where I wanted them. Mostly had trouble bending the tabs, when I finally decided to fabricate riblets.

So I finally finished my elevators 100%.

In the meantime, I've made significant progress on the tailcone. It's all torn apart, and ready to prime and start final assembly.

Progress

Been awhile since I've last posted in here.
I've completed my Emp along with the fiberglass fairings.
Today I took delivery of my QB wings.

Today my Quickbuild Fuse and finish kits were delivered...
These will keep me busy for awhile...

After having our first kid back in July 2017 and selling our old house and building a new house,
I’m finally back at pounding rivets again. Feels good to be back actively working on the project after almost a year and a half break.

I like your cabin cover lift. I muscled that thing on and off by myself fitting it,,,,but that was years ago. A little older now so I'm going to steal that idea on the new build!

Gear On!

Been a little over a year since I've updated this thread.

Major milestone today. It's standing on its own 3 legs.

Over the last year, I’ve gotten the cabin top, overhead console, doors, all windows, started my air conditioning install, placed major firewall parts, and some base electrical wiring completed.
Lots of odds and ends to still get done before my engine arrives in May.

Another milestone.
Engine is on.

Aero Sport Power IO-540-EXP.
9:1 cylinders ported and polished,
Barrett Cold Air Induction sump,
SDS EFII,
Tanis preheat,
dual B&C alternators.

Looks fantastic! I was curious what that material is on your firewall? I am always looking for ideas... (Plan on building a 10 too once I receive a kit)....

My MT propeller came yesterday and I just had to mount it to see how it looks and check the cowl fit.

I'm looking at the MT propeller for my build now and happened to have seen another build in Oregon last year who used MT propeller. I forgot to note down the builder's contact information. But he had a interesting issue with the propeller being too light, and had to add lead weight somewhere. What a wierd issue.

Do you have weight and balance issue with your prop being too light ?

Don’t think so, but not flying yet and haven’t gotten to the point of weighing the plane.

I did, however, stress over the possibility as most of the composite 3 bladed
Props are much lighter than the stock 2 bladed Hartzell. Seeing I’ve got AC, O2 tank, and battery in the back, I chose to go with the beefier MTV-9 prop, which is close to the stock prop weight. This compared to the MTV-12 typically sold through Van’s.

Another major milestone. Panel is powered!

Nice panel Adam. I’m taking notes for my panel. The master caution above Pilots G3 is excellent.
Good placement of the autopilot for a configuration w the throttle quadrant aft

Press on! Get er done.
Dave

RV-10 panel

Adam,

You can’t fly that plane unfortunately because you need to put that panel in a museum cause it’s a work of art! Well done

Made the safe journey to the airport today!
Now to finish this thing up and get her in the air.
