What size Wrench or Socket do You Need? New Tool Tells You

I am not understanding where this tool would be helpful. If the size I grab does not work, I pick up the next size up or down. Isn't that less work and quicker than grabbing this tool, trying to get a good measurement, and then getting the correct wrench?

I think it would be of limited use because so many bolt heads are not as easily accessible as the one pictured.

Down in a hole needing a deep socket/extension, other stuff too close for this tool's wide arms to fit around, as pa38112 said, doesn't take long to guess and change to the next size if wrong.

Also- When working on the same car/airplane, one gets to know the most common sizes.
Air-cooled Porsche 911? A 10mm, 13mm, and 19mm will dismantle 90% of the car.
Mazda likes to use even numbered sizes- 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, yada yada...
After a short while, it becomes somewhat automatic to grab the correct size.

On the other hand, another gadget in the toolbox is never a bad thing.

With the sensors on the new iPhones able to measure distances, I bet it won?t be long before there?s an app for that.

After spending 4.5 years building my aircraft, i can pretty much look at a bolt and tell whether its an AN3, 4, 5...
