Can someone tell me what this tool is? It came with my Avery kit circa 8 years ago.

I'm guessing it fits in a rivet gun and is used for ... riveting. A further guess is maybe back riveting in the C-Frame?

If that's correct, is there any advantage to the Cleveland back rivet conversion for the Avery C-Frame?

It looks like the riveter that goes in the C-Frame. Is there a 3/16" hole in the end that is not shown in the photo? If it has a hole that a dimple die fits in, then that is what it is.

IMHO, the Cleaveland conversion is worth the mod. It will allow you to do more with the C-Frame than you could otherwise.

The one on the bottom is the one you are referring to. Just didn't know what the flat, no hole one on the top was.
 
With the hole: Put a rivet set in the end, whack with a mallet. You can use either a flat or universal set on top or bottom, and either "rivet" or "back rivet".

Without the hole: Flat or universal rivet set goes on the base, drive with rivet gun to "back rivet".
