Mannifold Pressure Gauge Issue

Well had something happen today while flying with a friend. Looking at the
gauges I noticed the MAP gauge peg all the way past max. Headed back to the
airport and landed. No issues and no problem with the 0360. I shut the engine
down and the gauge stayed pegged. Shut the power off and the gauge fell to
0. Turn power back on immediately pegged. I have checked the 1/8th" tube
and it appears to be good. Has my gauge finally given up the ghost. I will get
back up to the plane tomorrow with my multi-meter and check things but would
appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Thanks!

If this is a mechanical MAP gauge, they can get fluid in the line. I had the face of the gauge fill up with fluid once. I had to install a drip leg in the line, which seems to have solved the problem.

This is the Van's Gauge that came with the kit. I did not build it but it has been
working for 13yrs. I believe that the gauge is electric. It requires 12v. The
gauge swings when the Master switch is turned on. I will check the tube for
fuel in the morning.

Thanks

Just had the same issue

I had a similar issue last week with the vans standard set up.
The bottom line was a crack in the small plastic tube. I think the radiated heat from the firewall hardened the tube near the through wall fitting. Luckily I was able to trim back to sift tubing and reinstall.
Works fine now

If the gauge goes PAST max, you most likely have a problem with the sensor, gauge, or wiring between the two. If it just reads ambient pressure all the time (when power is on), then it?s probably leaky plumbing between the manifold and sensor.

Yes it goes past Max. I will be up at the hangar with my multi-meter later this morning. Looks like a hot morning trying to troubleshoot the issue and I have a feeling that I will be replacing this...

Thanks.

So I went to the hangar and put the multi-meter on the gauge. With power it
never showed above about 1.0v. I tested continuity from the sensor and had
continuity. Maybe I just am not testing this right because as soon as I put power
to the gauges the MAP gauge maxes out. I am going to check google
and see if it is me or if I am doing something wrong here. One more weird
thing is that the needle used to jump when you keyed the mic.. now it doesn't
move when it is maxed out.

Thanks

Talked with Van's this morning and the gauge is bad. New one ordered and is
on it's way. I opted for overnight and should have it and installed by end of day
tomorrow. I absolutely love dealing with Van's. Always outstanding customer
service!!

Well I received the new gauge and sender. Swapped out the gauge and still
had the same problem. Swapped out the sensor and now the gauge is working
but reading ambient when not running and about 3.5" low at 1000rpm. I am
assuming there is a crack in the little plastic tube, probably at the firewall fitting.
Will go back up to the hangar later this evening after it cools down. Anything
else I should look for?
