Eagle's Nest Projects - Visit to the Texas Capital and Serving the Community

It’s been a busy week for Eagle’s Nest students at McKinney Aviation Academy (TX).

In addition to regular studies and completing the final touches on their RV-12 build project before flying it to Oshkosh, the Eagle's Nest students at McKinney Aviation Academy attended the Texas Capital by invitation from Red Bird Flight Simulators and Texas State Representative John P. Cyrier. Representative Cyrier is a long-time supporter of general aviation and is the Chairman of the General Aviation Caucus. Rep. Cyrier holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and is planning to draft legislation that will enhance Texas’ high school aerospace and STEM curriculum.

During their visit the MAA Eagle’s Nest students were recognized in the State Senate floor for their efforts.

Following their trip to State Capital the McKinney Aviation Academy Eagle’s Nest students volunteered for a very worthy cause - the Challenge Air Fly Day held at the McKinney airport.

Challenge Air’s mission exists to build confidence and self-esteem in children with special needs through the gift of flight. Website > Challengeair.com

Saturday’s Fly Day was a huge success with 18 aircraft flying, giving more than 130 special needs children the opportunity to experience the joy of flight. McKinney Eagle's Nest students helped Challenge Air with ground operations, ensuring each aircraft was safely operated on the ramp.

McKinney's Eagle’s Nest build-students are passionate about aviation and they couldn't think of a better way to give back to their community than volunteering for Challenge Air. We are proud of our students. Please join us in congratulating them for donating their time and efforts to help a dream come true for these deserving children. -Phil Campbell

Thanks!

Big appreciation to the Teachers involved; Todd Curtis and Nathan McAfee. These things don't happen without the Mentors and big thanks go out to all of them as well as Phil Campbell.

Finally, Ernie Butcher is responsible for this as well as other Eagle's Nest projects. Thank goodness for this man's commitment and vision for involving our youth in the General Aviation experience!
