Thumbs up RV-1 / Mission Accomplished!!!

A dream come true...
Working in concert, Friends of the RV-1, EAA, and the RV community have successfully created a new page in homebuilt aviation history - and done so in a most spectacular manner. The historic RV-1 is now preserved in the EAA museum for future generations, hundreds of dedicated volunteers and supporters were directly engaged in "restoring" the aircraft to airworthy condition, a special team of pilots and escorts barnstormed the RV-1 across the USA and into Canada, and the RV-1's creator, Richard VanGrunsven, has been properly recognized for his significant contributions to the homebuilt movement. A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone. Our shared dream is now a reality!
Job well done!

I'm gonna' miss that bird - will have to visit it once in awhile.....

I want to once again publicly thank the tremendously talented and experienced pilots who moved it around the country for us. I can honestly say that I never lost a night's sleep wondering if the airplane was in good hands - I knew that it was.

Thanks to the RV-1 Pilots!

Paul

The RV-1 is currently residing in the homebuilt hangar and I'm guessing it will be a while before it goes on display. I believe Van is planning on returning the RV-1 to the factory for a bit of refurb work before it goes on permanent display. The landing gear needs to be repaired, brake calipers changed to single piston, rudder/brake pedal work, lower cowl replaced, misc interior fixes, and it may even get a new paint job to fix the cockeyed registration numbers. Just a guess...

That's because you wouldn't let me fly it!

Thanks Paul & Louise for all your hard work and coordination of this project. An amazing feat of logistics made easy by pros.

Default And a shout out for the site coordinators!

We also had a terrific team of regional and site coordinators for the tour. Regional Coordinators included Dan Horton, Rick Weiss, Mitch Lock, Joe Gauthier, Kevin Horton, Bob Mills, James Clark, and Joe Blank. In addition, there were about a dozen site coordinators but I know I would forget several off the top of my head and I don't have the list with me right now. But, we sure appreciate you folks, too. A special shout out for Humpty Bump Glen for a variety of support (e.g., website) and Paul Tuttle for the wonderful painting.

Thanks for all the support and keeping us sleeping well.
