Modifying C/S to Fixed Pitch

If you get a Lycoming with the rear seal in the crank, what's the proper way to remove or put a hole in it for fixed-pitch operation?

I've gotten the impression that you don't have to split the case. But, I'm curious how its done without FODing the engine.

Punch a couple of holes, this will cause the plug to become loose, you can then use a long bit of wire to hook and remove it. No need to leave it in place.
