On Alan's RV-14A,the air-filter would sit level with the cowl lip and no amount of massaging the cowl or ramp would fix this.
The easiest solution was to make the front ramp mounts removable.
The baffle rubber is trimmed to fit the exact profile required then a piece of 1/2" x .063 is used as a retainer. The seal is attached to the .063 retainer with Sika and held in place with #6 screws. The nutplates are fitted to the lower cowl. The area in front is filled with micro and sanded to the intake profile.
It makes the lower cowl removal easier, also the rubbers are not stretched and damaged every time the cowl is removed and replaced.
I have used this method on several RV-10's with three bladed props and A/C and have found a lot less effort and less paint damage with lower cowl removal.
